Last week we were invited to an Entrepreneurs skills for business creation workshop. UNICEF and the National Union of Eritrean Youth & Students (NUEYS) put on the event as part of their ongoing initiatives to engage and empower young people.
Through a series of 5 day workshops, the participants built up their skills and gained an understanding of what it would take to start a business.
Rupesh Shrestha a professor of Entrepreneurship and Marketing at Kathmandu University, also on the Board of Directors of Idea Studio led the 5 day workshop. Participants were tasked with bringing problems they themselves had identified in the country, and came up with their own innovative solutions in resolving them.
Over the 5 days the participants really zoned in on their ideas, performed primary and secondary research, created business plans and finally presented their idea and concept in front of a panel made up of the UNICEF Representative to Eritrea, the British Ambassador and Professor Rupesh.
Solutions included; Digital Library, usage of Drones in crop farming, solar powered tablet devices for students and energy efficient stoves.
Of the 7 groups, 5 of the final presentations were led by women which was great to see but also the diversity and teamwork displayed throughout the week was inspiring.
It was great to see the effort put in by all the participants but also the progress they made over the 5 days. With guidance, they honed their presentations and then delivered amazing pitches, seeking finance to support their solution. We’re looking forward to seeing more ideas and solutions from this great bunch and many others in the coming months!
